Concept by Yvonne Watson

For my senior project, I have decided to create an environment in Unreal. My idea is inspired by The Secret of NIMH, Mouse Guard, Pikmin, and The Legend of Zelda: Minish Cap. My concept is to create a primitive village of mice who are living their day to day lives within the village walls where they stay safe from the monsters outside. Every year they perform a water purification ritual on the ritual site above a large tree stump that sits in their village. A hole runs through the center of the stump, lined with glowing crystals showing the power in the ritual site and strengthens the ceremonial herbs that are dropped down through the hole to the river that runs underneath the stump and out the village walls. This has a sedative like effect on the creatures outside the walls, keeping them from becoming agitated and storming the village walls. These mice have been fighting the creatures for centuries, winning most battles, but losing some important ones. Their ancestors were strong with magic but due to the loses over the years, most of this knowledge has been destroyed or forgotten. Some ancient magical items still exist for them but they are not able to use the items to their full potential anymore. Basic skills are passed down, but not much more. The goal of this project is to show the peacefulness of the village with hints of old battles and their dark past against the beasts outside the walls.

The Beginning by Yvonne Watson

As a senior VFX artist at SCAD, We are given the opportunity to work on a senior project of our choosing, or collaborate with others on a student film over the course of two quarters (20 weeks). I have chosen to direct my focus towards an environment using Unreal. This page will be used to document my progress over the weeks as to where I am with the project. While I am focusing mainly on this project, I will be doing texturing for other student films so posts may be inconsistent at times.
